Tong Ren Tang, with its main business of producing and selling traditional Chinese herbal medicines, integrates production, sales, research, and distribution. Its main products include Angong Niuhuang Wan (Calm the Palace Pill), Tong Ren Niuhuang Qingxin Wan (Clear the Heart Pill), and Tong Ren Wujibaifeng Wan (Black Chicken and White Phoenix Pill).
The Tong Ren Tang brand was established in 1669 (Year 8 of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty). Since 1723 (Year 1 of the Yongzheng reign in the Qing Dynasty), it has supplied medicinal herbs to the Qing Imperial Palace, serving eight generations of emperors for 188 years. In 1949, with the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Tong Ren Tang embarked on a new journey after enduring various changes. In 1992, the Beijing Tong Ren Tang Group Company was established, and in 2001, it was restructured into a wholly state-owned company, gradually adopting a modern corporate system. In 1997, its subsidiary, Tong Ren Tang Corporation, was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and in 2000, Tong Ren Tang Technology was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In 2013, Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, marking a new level of strength for the Tong Ren Tang Group.
Tong Ren Tang Group adheres to traditional Chinese medicine and herbal medicine as its main direction. It has formed a business pattern centered on pharmaceutical industry, supported by health preservation, medical care for the elderly, commercial retail, and international pharmaceuticals, creating a large health industry chain integrating planting (breeding), manufacturing, sales, medical care, health preservation, and research and development.
With the establishment of production bases in Hong Kong by Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Group, the company has transitioned from “Tong Ren Tang in Beijing” and “Tong Ren Tang in China” to “Tong Ren Tang in the World,” expanding its presence to 28 countries and regions on five continents, accelerating the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine.
Tong Ren Tang Group consists of seven subsidiaries, two institutes, and multiple direct subsidiaries. It operates over 2,400 retail terminals and medical institutions, providing health services to consumers year-round. With 36 production bases and over 110 modern production lines, the group can manufacture six major categories, more than 20 dosage forms, and over 2,600 types of drugs and health products. Well-known medicines such as Angong Niuhuang Wan, Tong Ren Niuhuang Qingxin Wan, and Tong Ren Wujibaifeng Wan are widely recognized.
“Tong Ren Tang shares benevolence and virtue, benefiting the world with health preservation” is the original intention of Tong Ren Tang’s establishment. “Wholeheartedly serving the people’s health” is its unchanged mission. Tong Ren Tang internalizes ancient teachings such as “Moral virtue is maintained even when no one sees; sincerity is known by heaven,” “Even though the preparation process is intricate, we never dare to reduce human effort; even though the ingredients are costly, we never dare to decrease resources,” and “May the people of the world be free of illness; even if the medicines on the shelf gather dust” into its corporate behavior standards. These teachings have forged Tong Ren Tang’s distinctive pharmaceutical characteristics of “unique formula, superior selection of ingredients, exquisite craftsmanship, and remarkable efficacy,” establishing the foundation of Tong Ren Tang’s quality and integrity culture.
