SMTCL is a joint-stock enterprise established in May 1993 through the joint efforts of Shenyang No. 1 Machine Tool Plant, Zhongjie Friendship Plant, Shenyang No. 3 Machine Tool Plant, and Liaoning Precision Instrument Factory. The company was approved for establishment by the Shenyang Economic System Reform Committee under Document No. 199231. In July 1996, it was granted approval for public issuance of RMB 54 million in common stock by the China Securities Regulatory Commission under Document No. 1996112, making the company’s total share capital amount to CNY 215,823,518. It went public on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange with the stock code 000410. This company is a subsidiary of Shenyang Machine Tool (Group) Co., Ltd. In December 2019, the controlling shareholder of the company changed to General Technology Group, with the actual controller being the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.
Shenyang No. 1 Machine Tool Plant was established in 1935. Over more than 60 years, through continuous technological reforms and innovations, it has become the largest comprehensive machine tool manufacturer in China and a national-level base for the development and manufacturing of CNC machine tools. Since its establishment, the factory has provided nearly 300,000 metal cutting equipment to China and the international manufacturing industry and is renowned for its excellent product quality.
In 1997, the factory secured the top bid and became the key national-level CNC machine tool production base in the “Ninth Five-Year Plan Major Scientific and Technological Tackling” project for industrializing CNC machine tools. That same year, the CAK series CNC machine tools produced by the factory were recognized as “Famous Brand Products” by the Ministry of Machinery Industry. The factory has successfully transitioned from primarily producing conventional lathes to primarily producing CNC lathes, with CNC products accounting for over 60% of the annual total production value.
Since 2000, the company has achieved continuous high-speed growth in its economic scale for seven consecutive years. Sales revenue has grown elevenfold, and machine tool production has grown elevenfold as well. Middle and high-end CNC machine tools have entered the core manufacturing areas of China’s key industries in bulk quantities, with over 70% of CNC machine tools supplied to the automobile, national defense, aerospace, and other industries. The company now has the capacity to provide complete technical equipment for national key projects, including producing four rail beam processing production lines for the Shanghai Maglev Train project, marking the research and manufacturing capabilities of Shenyang Machine Tool in this field reaching international advanced levels. The company has also successfully provided four engine cylinder body and cylinder head production lines to Chery Automobile, marking the first time that China has achieved mass production of high-end CNC machine tools for automobile components and ending the monopoly of international manufacturers in this field.
Since 2010, SMTCL has consistently used new technologies and materials to improve product quality. Its CNC tool post subsidiary successfully replaced ZQSn6-6-3 bronze alloy with microcrystalline alloy LZA4205 worm gear special material, further enhancing the product quality of Shenyang Machine Tool, while keeping costs under control, significantly boosting the company’s product competitiveness.
The Shenyang CNC Machine Tool Industrial Park has completed its relocation and professional restructuring. It now includes nine equipment manufacturing enterprises: Shenyang No. 1 Machine Tool Plant, Zhongjie Machine Tool Co., Ltd., Shenyang No. 1 Lathe Plant, Zhongjie Drilling and Boring Machine Tool Plant, Shenyang No. 1 HASS CNC Machine Tool Business Unit, Zhongjie Vertical Machining Center Business Unit, Complete Equipment Co., Ltd., Laser Technology Business Unit, and Fidia CNC Machine Tool Co., Ltd. Through professional restructuring, business process reengineering, and comprehensive informationization construction, Shenyang CNC Machine Tool Industrial Park will ultimately become the largest (single entity) CNC machine tool manufacturing base in the world.
The factory has strong product development and design capabilities. The Shenyang Lathe Research Institute, which is the key institute for the Chinese lathe industry, is located on the factory’s campus. With its strong scientific research and product development capabilities, it has gathered a large number of research elites who master modern research and development methods. It has a complete testing base and precise measurement methods, providing reliable guarantees for the overall performance of its products.
In 2007, Shenyang Machine Tool Group achieved an economic scale exceeding 10 billion and successfully completed the historic and challenging task of relocation and restructuring. Shenyang Machine Tool Group, together with nine other national enterprises and projects, such as Daqing Oilfield and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation’s Shenzhou 6 Manned Spaceflight Project, jointly won the top honor in China’s industrial sector, the China Industrial Award. In December 2011, Shenyang Machine Tool Group, as a representative of China’s machine tool industry innovation, was awarded the title of “China’s Top Ten Innovative Enterprises” at the “2011 China Independent Innovation Annual Conference” hosted by the Economic Daily.
As of January 28, 2022, the company’s technical center holds the qualification of a national enterprise technical center, as indicated in a notice by the National Development and Reform Commission and other relevant departments regarding the release of the 28th batch of new and existing national enterprise technical center lists for the year 2021.
